Each time I build a funnel I use this EXACT checklist below to help me optimise for conversions.

I. Understanding Your Audience

A well-crafted sales funnel allows you to:

  • target the right audience
  • the right message at the right time
  • leading them down the path to purchase

That's why they're so powerful.

  • Understanding your audience is the cornerstone of any marketing strategy.
  • You must know them intimately if you want to speak to them.
  • Otherwise your words will fall on deaf ears.
  • By knowing who your audience is, their needs, and their pain points, you can tailor your messaging to speak directly to them, thus increasing the likelihood of conversion.


Market Research Checklist:


[ ] Define your target audience - Who are they? What are they interested in?

[ ] Identify their needs and pain points

[ ] Understand their buying behaviour - What triggers their decisions?

[ ] Segment your audience based on their behaviours, needs, and interactions

[ ] Complete market research by searching platforms such as YouTube, Quora, Reddit, and other forums with relevant feedback or questions that will help understand your audience

II. Lead Magnet Creation

Why a lead magnet is a must for your business:

Email is one of the best tools for marketing because it allows you to connect directly with people.


To get email addresses, you can offer something for free that your audience will find really useful, like an eBook, a webinar, or a special guide.


This free offer should solve a problem or provide important information that your audience needs.


By giving them something valuable, you show that you can be trusted to help them, and this makes them more likely to stay in touch and listen to what you have to say in the future.


An irresistible lead magnet must include:


  • An attention grabbing headline
  • Deliver immense value
  • Make your prospects want to learn more
  • Make sure it is a resource that your target market would die to have
  • Addresses a problem your target audience faces with your lead magnet proves your expertise and establishes your business as a solution

[ ] Identify a specific problem your target audience is experiencing

[ ] Create a valuable resource (e-book, checklist, webinar, etc.) that addresses this problem

[ ] Ensure the lead magnet is directly tied to your product or service

[ ] Create a compelling title and description for your lead magnet

[ ] Test different formats and content for your lead magnet

[ ] Design a visually attractive cover or image for your lead magnet

[ ] Make sure your lead magnet is easy to access and download

[ ] Make sure the opt-in form is simple and gets their name and email

III. Landing Page Optimisation

The viewer only has 1 option.

A landing page is like a digital sales pitch.

But instead of talking to a person face-to-face, it's all done through words, pictures and videos.

  • The landing page is where the magic happens - it's where your leads convert into customers.
  • A well-optimised landing page can significantly boost your conversion rates, leading to a direct increase in sales.
  • By improving elements like headline, copy, images, and call-to-action, you can make your landing page more compelling and persuasive.
  • Using social proof like testimonials and case studies can significantly increase trust, further boosting conversions.

[ ] Write a clear and compelling headline that communicates the value of your offer

[ ] Include a unique selling point above the fold

[ ] Include social proof above the fold

[ ] Optimise for readability and make sure the page is scannable

[ ] Use persuasive copy that encourages visitors to take action

[ ] Include eye-catching images or videos that support your copy

[ ] Make your call-to-action (CTA) prominent and easy to locate

[ ] Ensure your landing page is responsive and fast-loading

[ ] Implement conversion rate optimisation strategies (A/B testing, user heatmaps, etc.)

[ ] Include social proof (testimonials, case studies, etc.) throughout the page to build trust

[ ] Include a guarantee

[ ] Optimise the view for mobile

[ ] Keep the design and layout of the page simple and user-friendly

[ ] Make sure there is only 1 offer on the page

[ ] Make you emails concise and scannable

[ ] Write compelling subject lines to increase open rates

[ ] Subject lines that are 4-5 words max and induce intrigue

[ ] Include clear CTAs in your emails

[ ] Entertain, excite and engage your readers.

[ ] Create an email sequence for nurturing leads

[ ] Don't include too many visuals or graphics. Plain text does best.

[ ] Write like you're writing to a friend.

[ ] Make the emails about your reader and not yourself.

[ ] Implement a re-engagement email sequence for inactive subscribers

[ ] Use A/B testing for subject lines, email body, CTA, send times, etc.

[ ] Segment your email list and tailor communication to each segment

V. Data Analytics & Reporting

Optimizing your sales funnel involves ongoing efforts. Using data analytics can help you make this process effective and efficient.

With detailed tracking and analytics, you can see which parts of your funnel work well and which need fixing. This helps you spot and solve problems quickly, so you don’t lose sales.

Knowing key metrics like Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) and Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) is important. These metrics guide your overall strategy and help you get the most out of your investments.
